Watch: People Are Outraged Jeff Sessions Is Trump's Attorney General Pick Because of Racist Past
Here's what many fear for policing and criminal justice reform.
On Friday, Donald Trump's team announced Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions’ nomination to serve as attorney general.
Following the news, many took to Twitter to oppose the nomination.
In the past, Sessions has made racist comments and opposed civil rights groups.
In the past, Sessions fought the Senate’s comprehensive 2013 immigration reform bill and has opposed efforts to reduce mandatory minimum prison sentences.
He's called the NAACP 'un-American.'
And used his power to keep Black people from voting.
If confirmed, this would be a tremendous step back for the U.S. Department of Justice.
However, many GOP senators who have previously opposed him have come out and supported his nomination.
Regardless of how this plays out, it's clear that many refuse to accept Sessions as a viable nominee.
