Watch: Finally a Win! Everyone From Jesse Williams, Van Jones to Pharell Are Celebrating Activists Halting the Dakota Access Pipeline

This marks one of the year’s most historic victories.

On Sunday evening, the Secretary of the Army Corps of Engineers announced they have halted the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, after much protest by Native Americans and activists.

The controversial pipeline for the most part has been completed by Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners LP; however, when it was decided that the final portion of the line would run through sacred Native American land, activists and natives from many tribes came together in protest. Environmental activists also protested the potential harm the line could cause the water supply.

  • After the army made the announcement, celebrations at Standing Rock – and nationwide – commenced

  • Many celebrities and politicians have taken to Twitter to celebrate the monumental news

  • Others congratulated the protesters for remaining strong and the government for listening

Although this is a major victory for many Americans, it could all be undone by President-elect Trump, who is a known supporter of the pipeline.
