Watch: 2016 Was Garbage, BUT Here Are a Few Things We’re Looking Forward to in 2017

A countdown of things to get excited about in 2017.

After a year like 2016 there’s nowhere else to go but up. Here are some things we have to look forward to in 2017:

  1. Comfort Food

No one can take comfort food from us ever, not even in 2016, and luckily we had an ace first lady remind us of how to eat good and keep it moving too. In 2017 we’ll have beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes, chicken, Turkeys, rabbit, you name it.  Which brings us to what’s next on the list.

  2. Memes and Challenges

Black people know how to respond to a challenge, and that’s with another challenge. No matter how horrendous things get, Black Twitter is always there for us with dank-ass memes and challenges. 2016 was lit, so we know 2017 will be next level.

  3. Black History Month

It’s right around the corner just waiting for us to remember how far we’ve come and to remind us of how capable we are. Let’s not forget all the cool ways we made history in 2016. Time to get pumped for how we’re gonna make history in 2017, too.

  4. More Black Love

2017 is all about the love. We’re 100 percent here for celebrating more Black love and shining a light on our beautiful brown-skinned LGBTQ community. Come on, Black love, Black excellence and Black acceptance in 2017!

  5. FUBU

Nobody does it better than us! From music to style to businesses we owned 2016. In 2017 we will all have front row seats to watching people fail when they try to appropriate our culture, like when Khole wore bantu knots *have a seat.* And we will happily gather them and let them know not to compare where they don’t compete.

  6. Exposing Racists' Party

In 2016 there was no shortage of the sweet satisfaction that comes from dragging dumb racists for stupid Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat posts and getting them fired or expelled. We have a feeling 2017 will let all of us know exactly who not to invite to the cookout and which companies to boycott. Don't forget, all that money you're saving on not shopping New Balance can be safely put away at a Black bank!

  7. The Rise of Social Justice Activists

It’s been a tough year, but people like Jesse Williams, Deray Mckesson and Kamala Harris are going to step up to the plate in 2017 to make sure criminal justice reform isn't just a hashtag, but a reality.

  8. Trump Being So Bad He Might Be Good

Here’s to looking forward to some (hopefully not catastrophic) fallout from something Trump does (or tweets) that will benefit us. Maybe Trump's legacy will be that he’ll energize people to stay politically involved in non-election years.

  9. Black Comedy

Here’s to laughing though the frustration of a Trump presidency for motivation to push through in the new year. Who else is ready for new Chappelle specials on Netflix, a Chris Rock tour, more Insecure, 13 more Kevin Hart movies and Madea Goes to Mars!?

  10. #CareFreeBlackGirls: What Sasha and Malia Obama Will Do Next

Everyone's looking forward to what's next for both of the Obama girls and ready to see them grow and shine without the harsh spotlight that comes with being first kids. Dance like no one’s watching girls, not even secret service!

  11. Barack and Michelle’s Excellent Adventure

Speaking of the Obamas' daughters, we're all pumped for what Barack and Michelle will do to continue their history-making legacy. They'll always be our favorite first couple. Plus, can you imagine what Barack is going to be like now that he can take his finger off the chill button?!
