Many Are Furiously Opposing Trump's Plans to Cut Funding to Meals on Wheels, NPR, PBS, Museums and These Other Institutions
On Thursday, President Trump released a partial plan for his proposed 2018 budget. In his plan, titled "A Budget Blueprint to Make America Great Again," Trump's administration proposes to cut billions of dollars of federal funding for several institutions which already receive small amounts of government money.
The plan would take away funding from several agencies and allocate additional funding to areas that Trump made part of his platform. The plan, which would result in an overall 1.2 percent cut in overall spending, would slash funding to the Environmental Protection Agency and the State Department.
In addition, smaller programs such as Amtrak and Meals on Wheels would see significant drops in funds. Funding for several arts agencies — including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities — would be removed entirely.
The CPB partially funds NPR, PBS and about 1,500 local public television and radio stations across the US.
Trump's plan would add funding to defense, homeland security and veteran's affairs.
