This 25-Year-Old Mother Tragically Died From a Butt Lift at Clinic Responsible for a Woman's Death Last Year

Ranika Hall's family is demanding answers from the doctor.

Last Thursday, a 25-year-old mother of one left her home in Missouri and traveled to South Florida in order to have a popular procedure known as the Brazilian Butt Lift. However, Ranika Hall never returned home due to medical complications that resulted in her death, reported NBC 6.

Hall made her appointment at the Eres Plastic Surgery in Hialeah, Florida. When she left her one-year-old daughter in her mother’s care, she was told not to go through with the procedure.

"I tried to talk her out of it. I really did," Nicole Hall, Ranika’s mother, said. "Her sisters and her brothers tried to talk her out of it."

However, Ranika still made her appointment and continued to the plastic surgeon. Sometime before 9 p.m., area paramedics were called to Eres Plastic Surgery for a woman who had lost consciousness and was not breathing, according to Hialeah Police.

Hall was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead an hour after arrival.

"Unbelievable like it's not true," Nicole Hall told NBC 6 about the tragedy. "It's hard for me to grasp a hold of it."

The family says they can't afford to come to town and are arranging to bring her body home from there. Hall also wants to know why her daughter died. Hall's mother has created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses. They are just short of their ten thousand dollar goal.

"I know it's supposed to be a common procedure," Hall said. "I'm looking for answers."

Eres Plastic Surgery says it's investigating the death.

The attorney for Eres Plastic Surgery released an official statement that read:

"Dr. Daniel Calva and Eres Plastic Surgery express their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of our patient who had recently undergone a cosmetic procedure at our center on Thursday evening. Dr. Daniel Calva and Eres Plastic Surgery are deeply saddened by what has occurred and offter their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Dr. Calva is a highly skilled and caring surgeon that is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to his patients."

In May of 2016, a woman named Heather Meadows, 29, also died as a result of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure.

According to a survey conducted by doctors with the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation, patients are 20 times more likely to die from the Brazilian Butt Lift than any other cosmetic surgery.

When people undergo the procedure, fat is taken from the stomach or back and injected into the buttocks. However, in some circumstances, fat can enter the blood stream and make its way to the lungs. This will cause a person to stop breathing.
