Twitter Just Eviscerated These White Teens for Saying 'You May Be Picking Cotton, But We’re Picking You' in Disgusting Prom Proposal

The viral post has reportedly resulted in suspension and lost scholarships.
  • A photo of two teens asking a friend to prom has recently instilled fury in many people

The two white students from Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, asked one of their softball teammates to go to the prom with them.

“You may be picking cotton, but we’re picking you to go to prom with us,” read the cardboard sign that the girls made to ask their friend. The photo was then posted to one of the girls' Instagram account.

  • The post immediately received comments from angry people who could not believe such racism would be used to ask someone to prom

  • The girl in the middle, who some identified as Klara, was subjected to criticism for allowing friends to create such a disturbing poster

  • Eventually, the two girls in the photo were identified as Sarah and Emily

Through investigation, it was discovered that Sarah was going to be a student at University of Central Florida, who offered her a scholarship.

The principal of Monarch, James Neer, was also identified by people commenting on the photo.

  • Soon after the post went viral, the social media accounts for Sarah and Emily were deactivated

James Neer has not yet commented on the photo or the current status of Emily and Sarah.

  • According to one person on Twitter, Sarah's UCF scholarship was revoked and the girls lost their jobs

BET has reached out to Monarch Principal James Neer for comment.
