Dr. David Dao Will File Lawsuit Against United Airlines After Suffering a Concussion and a Broken Nose, and Losing Two Front Teeth

The injured passenger was just released from the hospital.

The passenger dragged off the United Airlines flight from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky, will “probably” file a lawsuit as a result of the serious injuries he endured. Dr. David Dao will need reconstructive surgery after he suffered a significant concussion, a broken nose, a sinus injury, and lost two of his front teeth, reported Chicago Tribune.

Dao’s attorney, Thomas Demetrio, spoke at a news conference on Wednesday, where he described the extent of his client’s injuries. Dao was discharged from the hospital Wednesday night, Demetrio said.

Although Dao did not attend the news conference, his attorney provided a detailed account of the trauma he suffered. According to Demetrio, "unreasonable force and violence" were used to remove Dao from the overbooked plane. Demetrio believes United and the city should be held accountable.

Dao’s daughter, Crystal Dao Pepper, emotionally addressed the media.

"What happened to my dad should never happen to any human being regardless of the circumstances," Pepper said at the news conference.

United CEO Oscar Munoz claimed the airline company had attempted to reach out to Dao and his family, yet Demetrio denied those claims.

Demetrio believes a future lawsuit could potentially open a dialogue about the expectations of airlines and customers.

"Maybe airlines need to start expecting the unexpected, but not at the expense, certainly not at the physical expense, of its paying passengers," he said.
