Family of 9-Year-Old Wounded in North Park Elementary Shooting Says 'He's Doing Well'

Nolan Brandy smiled from his hospital bed during recovery.

The 9-year-old boy injured in the shooting at North Park Elementary in San Bernardino is reportedly doing very well and making a swift recovery. The parents of Nolan Brandy shared a photo of the student smiling from his hospital bed.

Leon and Rachel Brandy offered a thank you to the community for supporting their family through this difficult time, according to a statement sent to the San Bernardino City Unified School District.

“We are grateful,” the family stated. “Please continue to pray for him and also for Jonathan Martinez’s and Karen Smith’s families.”

Brandy has been in the hospital since the shooting on Monday. However, doctors say he can leave the intensive care unit on Thursday and could be released from the hospital this weekend, said Superintendent Dale Marsden during a meeting at the San Bernardino City Unified school board.

“I did have a chance to visit today with Nolan, touched his cheeks and saw his beautiful smile,” Marsden said.

Nolan Brandy was injured by gunfire on Monday morning when Cedric Anderson, 53, went to North Park Elementary. After entering the school, he killed his estranged wife, Karen Elaine Smith, and 8-year-old Jonathan Martinez. Nolan was wounded in the shooting.
