San Diego Shooting Victim Identified as Mother of Three and Childhood Friend of Nick Cannon, Monique Clark

Police say Peter Selis's shooting was motivated by a breakup.

Friends and family have identified the woman fatally shot at a San Diego pool party as Monique Clark, a mother of three.

On Sunday, Peter Selis, 49, opened fire at the La Jolla Crossroads apartment complex during a man's 50th birthday party. During the shooting rampage, Selis struck seven people, including Clark.

  • Clark was a mother of three young girls

One friend told CBS 8 Monique was "one of the nicest, most genuine people you would ever meet."

A GoFundMe page has been established to help all the victims of the shooting.

  • Nick Cannon revealed through a tribute post on Instagram he was childhood friends with Clark

  • Police have new developments for the motive behind Selis's crime

According to San Diego Police, Selis was “distraught” over a breakup at the time of the shooting. Police say Selis phoned his unidentified ex-girlfriend to let her know that he just shot two people, reported ABC 23.

Selis's motive slightly resembles Steve Stephens, who shot and killed an elderly man and blamed his ex-girlfriend.
