Man Arrested for Fatally Shooting His Girlfriend's Beloved Uncle While He Tried to Help Her Move Out

Donald Woods was reportedly abusive.

A man in Atlanta surrendered to police after reportedly shooting a Vietnam war veteran who was trying to help his niece move out, reported Channel 2 Action News.

On Thursday Donald Woods, 57, shot and killed Otha Orr Thursday after struggling over possession of a gun. Orr and his brother came to his neice’s apartment to help her move out, but when they arrived, Woods came out and started a fight. Eventually, Woods pulled out his gun and pointed it towards the Orr brothers.

“He came out and hit me in the head with the gun, and then them and my brother were struggling with the gun," brother Edmund Orr told Channel 2.

Witnesses in the neighborhood saw the struggle on the street.

“I saw him point the gun, then I heard the shots and I kicked it into reverse," witness Gia Banks told Channel 2. “It was like, OK, I'm praying, backing my van up.”

Banks said she drove into the middle of a wild struggle and shooting outside the apartment complex on Peeple's Street.

Otha Orr was shot twice and died. Edmond Orr said the gunman shot at him but missed.

Banks said she picked up the victim's niece, who told her she was in an abusive relationship.

“She said she knew he had guns, but never thought he would do this," Banks said.
