"For Colored Girls" Wins Big at NAACP Image Awards

"Sunday Best" honored for best reality show.

"For Colored Girls" took home three NAACP awards Friday, including honors for best picture, director, and supporting actress. BET Networks won best reality programming for “Sunday Best.”

Director Tyler Perry and supporting actress Kimberly Elise took home statues for the film, which is based on the award-winning play "for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf," written by Ntozake Shange.

"Tyler Perry's House of Payne," won outstanding comedy series, and the star of "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns"  won best actor in a comedy series.

In addition to winning for "Sunday Best," BET Networks was nominated for four other awards: “A Conversation with President Obama,” “Conversations with Ed Gordon,” “The Mo’Nique Show,” and “Black Girls Rock!”

Vanessa Williams won the TV comedy actress prize for "Desperate Housewives." Halle Berry won best actress in a motion picture for "Frankie & Alice."

The Image Awards honor diversity in the arts and outstanding achievements in film, television, music and literature. (See video of the pre-show gala.)
