Thurgood Marshall

The Thurgood Marshall stamp was issued on Jan. 7, 2003. Thurgood Marshall worked as a civil rights lawyer before becoming the first African-American to serve as solicitor general of the United States. In 1967, he became an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, the first African-American to serve on the court.
