Rep. Gregory Meeks (New York)
Dr. King's notion that "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" motivated me to pursue a career in law, and later as an elected official, to dedicate my life to bringing justice and equal opportunity to all people. As an elected official I am often guided by Dr. King's words that call us to do what is right rather than what is safe, politic or popular because as he so eloquently said, "there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right."
