Preparing for the Worst
Seventy percent of Japanese citizens believe their country should cut its dependence on nuclear energy in fear that another nuclear disaster could arise, respondents said in a Pew poll released June 5. The country has been working to restart two of 50 generators taken offline following the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, which took the lives of nearly 20,000 people and trigged a meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.
