Personal or Universal?
The world will never know what led Adam Lanza to massacre 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School, but a majority of respondents believe such acts reflect the nation's broader societal problems. In a Pew Research survey conducted immediately after the school shootings and released Dec. 16, 47 percent blamed societal problems for such incidents, while 44 percent said they're isolated acts committed by troubled individuals.
