Rev. Josiah Henson, an escaped slave who would become the inspiration behind Harriet Beecher Stowe’s anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin, set up a school for former slaves in Ontario, Canada, the final destination for many slaves traveling along the Underground Railroad. The Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historic Site includes Henson's home, a church, a museum, theater and cemetery.
