Jackson State University Renames Center After Late State Senator

Jackson State University has decided to honor Mississippi State Senator Alice Varnado Harden by renaming its Center for Service and Community Engaged Learning after the late politician. Harden was a graduate of the school and was the first Black woman to serve on the state's senate, where she served for 24 years before passing away last December. (Photo: Courtesy of Jackson State University)
