Postal Service Layoffs to Affect Blacks

The U.S. Postal Service announced on Dec. 5 that it will shut down 252 mail processing centers and cut 28,000 jobs in order to skirt impending bankruptcy. The news will be especially devastating to African-Americans — they make up a fifth of the USPS’s workforce and account for 10 percent of all career postal workers.
