FAMU Band Members Call Hazing “A Respect Thing”

As part of evidence released on Wednesday, Jonathan Boyce, one of the defendants in the hazing death of Florida A&M University drum major Robert Champion, told investigators the brutal initiation ritual known as “crossing over” was something Champion looked forward to all season. Eleven people have been charged with felony hazing in Champion’s death on Nov. 19, while two others face misdemeanor charges in the hazing of two other band members.
