NYPD Falsely Arrests Honor Student
Two New York Police officers tackled Brittany Rowley, a 15-year-old honor student, to the ground and handcuffed her to a bench for three hours because she fit the description of "a Black young lady with braids” suspected of shoplifting at a Brooklyn clothing store. On May 22, Rowley’s father filed a $5.5 million lawsuit against the city and the two officers, alleging false arrest and excessive use of force.
