Compton Could Join Growing List of Bankrupt Cities

Compton, California, is teetering on the edge of financial ruin and could run out of money by Sept. 1. The city's $44 million budget shortfall stems from declining property tax revenue due to home foreclosures in the area. Compton boasts a population of 93,000 residents, about 33 percent African-American and about 23 percent living below the poverty line, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. (Photo:  Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)
