Savannah, Georgia’s First Black Mayor Dies

Floyd Adams Jr., the first Black mayor of Georgia’s oldest city, died at the age of 68 on Saturday afternoon. He took office in 1996 and was re-elected in 1999. He was also publisher of the Savannah Herald, a Black weekly newspaper. (Photo: Courtesy of Adams for Mayor)
