Prairie View Professor Dies at 81 - The Prairie View A&M University community is mourning the loss of Evelyn Thornton, a veteran mathematics professor. Thornton died Tuesday at the age of 81. She was employed at the university when she passed. Thornton was the first African-American to earn a doctorate in mathematics at the University of Houston and mentored thousands of women in the science, technology, engineering and math-related fields. Father Beats Down Man Who Molested His Son - A 34-year-old unnamed father of Daytona Beach, Florida, came home to find his 11-year-old son being sexually battered by Raymond Frolander, 18. The father beat Frolander and left him with a swollen face and black eye. Frolander was a neighbor to the victim and considered a close family friend.
