NYPD Commissioner Blames Criminal Records for Lack of Diversity in Police Force  - New York City police commissioner Bill Bratton attributes the low hiring rate of African-Americans to damaging “stop-and-frisk” policy adopted by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “We have a significant population gap among African-American males because so many of them have spent time in jail and, as such, we can’t hire them,” Bratton said in an interview with the Guardian. In the application process, convicted felons are automatically disqualified while multiple summonses are taken into account as “demonstrated disrespect for the law.”

One third of participants equated motherhood with womanhood. A majority of the respondents also associated bearing children as a higher power’s intention for females.
