Posted March 16, 2007 – Are people really born gay? A prominent Southern Baptist seminary official says absolutely, and that it can possibly be "curable" in unborn babies.
Remarks by the Rev. R. Albert Mohler Jr., who is president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, were published on his personal Web site. He says that the article, "Is Your Baby Gay? What If You Could Know? What If You Could Do Something About It?," was intended to open up a dialogue.
It has done just that, with both conservative Christians and gay activists seeing red.

Belief in a biological basis for homosexuality challenges the argument of many conservative Christians that homosexuality -- which they view as sinful -- is a matter of choice that can be overcome through prayer and counseling.
Mohler writes that such a discovery would be "of great pastoral significance, allowing for a greater understanding of why certain persons struggle with these particular sexual temptations."
But the second part of his assertion outraged gay rights groups: He said that if even if it were biological in nature, homosexuality is a sin, and he voiced support for possible "treatment" of unborn children to cure them of homosexuality.
