Read and Watch: Central Michigan Student Confesses to Hanging Nooses

Posted Nov. 20, 2007 – It’s likely that federal charges will be brought against the male student who has taken responsibility for nooses found hanging in laboratory at Central Michigan University, officials said.

If charges are brought, they will be federal charges," Special Agent Dawn Clenney told The Associated Press on Friday. "The FBI has also been in contact with the U.S. Attorney's Office (in Detroit).

On Thursday, a student reported finding four nooses, made of surgical tubing, hanging in a second-floor classroom of the Engineering and Technology Building. This is the second racially motivated incident on campus this month.

Three weeks ago, somebody distributed flyers saying that all Muslims are terrorists.

We have no evidence that the two (incidents) are connected," said Smith. "The person found responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Police say that the student involved in the noose incident called police late Saturday morning and confessed.
