Marion Jones’ Championship Titles Erased from Record Books

Posted Nov. 26, 2007 - The International Association of Athletics Federations has removed Marion Jones’ Olympic and world championship titles from their records.

In the wake of Jones’ recent admission that she used steroids from September 2000 to July 2001 – coinciding with the time of her participation in the 2000 Olympics at Sydney, Australia – she has also been told to return any prize money she earned during that period.

But Jones is reported to be struggling financially, and it’s thought unlikely that she will repay the $700,000.

The International Olympic Committee will determine if the retired runner’s teammates will also be stripped of their gold medals and bronze medals in the 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 meter relays, in which Jones participated.

Should her teammates have to give back their medals too? Click 'Discuss Now' to talk about it.
