Rutgers Player Drops Suit Against Shock Jock Don Imus

Posted Sept. 13, 2007 – The sista from the Rutgers Women's Basketball team who filed a slander and defamation suit against Don Imus last month has decided to drop it.

Kia Vaughn's reason?  A spokesman for Vaughn's lawyer says she's not offering any formal explanation other than she's decided to focus more on her studies and athletic commitments, The New York Times reports.

The lawsuit claimed her character and reputation were damaged by Imus when he described Vaughn and her teammates as "nappy-headed hos" during a radio broadcast. Vaughn was also asking for unspecified monetary damages.

Joseph Tacopina, a lawyer for Imus' sidekick, Bernard McGuirk, says the suit didn't have a chance in the first place.

"The suit was absolutely ridiculous," he tells the New York Post. "We were gearing up to file a motion to dismiss," adding that Imus never mentioned Vaughn by name during on-air insult of the Rutgers Women's Basketball team.
