Posted Aug. 21, 2008 – Beep! It’s the Veep. Barack Obama has chosen Sen. Joe Biden  of Delaware as his VP running mate.

The 47-year-old Democratic presidential hopeful made the announcement by e-mail, text messages and on his official site.

The traditional scenario would have been for Obama and his VP pick to appear at some grand joint news conference somewhere with their families and dozens of TV cameras. However, following his tradition of "change," Obama and his camp wanted supporters to know the very moment he announced his decision. No other campaign has done this before.

The announcement comes before the start of the Democratic National Committee Convention, which starts in Denver next week.
