Posted Nov. 17, 2008- Comedienne Wanda Sykes, the co-star of “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” officially came out of the closet at a rally in Las Vegas Saturday, saying that she tied the knot with her girlfriend on Oct. 25 – just days before the passage of the Proposition 8 legislation, which bans gay marriage in California.

The Emmy Award-winning stand-up comedian, known for her feisty and blunt style, said the passage of California's Proposition 8 "pissed" her off and that she personally felt "attacked."
Sykes, 44, said those who know her personally have known that she's gay, and she's "proud" of it. She told the crowd that she was just living her life, not necessarily in the closet, but now she's "gotta get in their face" about gay marriage being banned in the state.
“They pissed off the wrong group of people. They have galvanized a community. ... Instead of having gay marriage in California, we’re going to get it across the country,” she added.
“When my wife and I leave California, I want to have my marriage also recognized in Nevada, in Arizona, all the way to New York,” she said at the rally. "I’m proud to be a woman. I’m proud to be a Black woman, and I’m proud to be gay.”
