Police in a New Orleans-area neighborhood are searching for one of the thugs who kicked in the door of a Terrytown, La., apartment spraying bullets and killing two children and a woman and seriously wounding a girl.
One of the gunmen, a 24-year-old man, was arrested in connection with Saturday's execution-style triple murder, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced Sunday. Dayshawn Young was taken into custody after investigators identified Young as one of the two suspects believed to be involved in the killing, said Col. John Fortunato, sheriff’s spokesman. He was booked on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
As of Sunday, the 11-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was in stable condition, according to a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department. He said that when the two gunmen – garbed in a black baseball cap and black hooded sweatshirt; one wore a red bandana – busted in, they shot Dominique Sterling, 19, in the back; they then shot two other children in the head (her 23-month-old son, Robert Claiborne and a 6-year-old boy named Four Overstreet) as they lay in bed.
Authorities say there was marijuana and crack cocaine in the apartment.
The shooting took place in the crime-ridden Trianon Square neighborhood of Terrytown, which is across the Mississippi River from New Orleans and about six miles from the French Quarter.
