Isiah Thomas Gets College Coaching Gig
Former NBA great and less-than-spectacular pro coach Isiah Thomas has been named head basketball coach at Florida International University.
Thomas, one of the most exciting point guards during his college years at Indiana University and as the player who led his Detroit Pistons to two national championships, is hoping to steer his career back on the winning track after a couple recent embarrassments.
I'm committed to growing something here, and strongly believe that over time, we'll put a team on the floor that everyone at FIU can be proud of," the Hall of Famer said.
Last season, as coach of the New York Knicks, Thomas suffered through a 23-59 season before getting the boot. He was also found guilty of sexually harassing a team executive, which led to a multi-million-dollar lawsuit.
I think it's a great thing for him and it's kind of what I wanted for him from the day I let him go," said Knicks President Donnie Walsh, who fired Thomas.
