Oprah Winfrey scored a two-for-one this past weekend when she received an honorary doctorate from Duke University and surprised her godson while appearing as convocation speaker.
The talk show host and media powerhouse addressed 4,400 Duke grads, including William King, telling them: "Will never wants people to know he knows me. I'm like his crazy aunt that they let out at commencements."
King is the son of Winfrey's best friend and occasional show guest Gayle King. He reportedly likes to keep his link to one of the nation's most influential women on the low.
Winfrey encouraged the new Duke grads to view their advancement in life as directly connected to the ways in which they help others to advance. "One of the best ways to enhance your own life is to enhance somebody else's," Winfrey told the audience. "Each of us has to stand in our own shoes. Will you stand in them in humility and compassion and courage? Every day will give you a chance to make that choice."
