Harvard Shooting Victim Dies

A young Massachusetts man, Justin Cosby, died Tuesday after he was shot in the stomach Monday near the entrance of a Harvard University dorm, reports The Boston Globe.

Law enforcement officials are still mum on details surrounding the shooting of the 21-year-old that occurred near Kirkland House residence hall. But they are looking for suspects and are hopeful they will be able to solve the case.

“We feel extremely bad for Justin’s family,” Gerald T. Leone Jr., the district attorney for Middlesex said at a press conference. He also said that the authorities don’t think Harvard students had anything to do with the shooting.

Cosby’s mother remains in shock and grief. “It’s just so strange,” Denise Cosby told the Globe. “He was fine, healthy yesterday. I just can’t believe my son is not here today. Inside I’m just torn up, I feel like someone has murdered me.”

Denise Cosby last saw her son Monday afternoon with his girlfriend. At 8 p.m., she found out he was shot.

Cosby doesn’t know why her son, who was not a student at Harvard, was on the school’s campus and why anyone would want to shoot him. The Cosbys’ neighbors are also stunned by the killing.

“I just can’t believe that anyone would find it in their heart … to intentionally try to hurt him. He was just an angel,” one neighbor told the Globe.

Cosby withdrew from Salem State College in Massachusetts in April after having accumulated enough credits for sophomore standing, according to Salem State spokeswoman Karen Cady.
