The Cos is back and coming to a social network near you. According to Mashable, comedian/philanthropist Bill Cosby has just made his entrance into social media sphere joining popular sites Facebook, 12seconds, and Twitter to name a few. The social media push is an effort to promote The Cosnarati, a socially conscious hip-hop group. Cosby will continue his virtual promo tour on Ustream Monday, October 19 at 7pm EST.
An outspoken critic of the plight of black America and the steps needed to repair said woes, Cosby has divided African-American community on more than one occasion. It will be interesting to see the reception the Jell-O spokesman receives from the online community as the 72 year old legend makes an entry into Rap, the music of the disaffected youth that he’s criticized in the past. And while it’s cool to see a legend using social media to spread his message of positivity, it will take more than his new Facebook app to win his potential audience over.
Can the power of social media bridge the generation gap? Will you be checking for Dr. Cosby online? I’m personally rooting for the power of music to win the day, but the proof will definitely be in the pudding, so to speak.
