A memorial service is being held today for a 15-year-old boy who was found dead, raped and left in a closet in Baltimore.
Jason Mattison Jr. had been "forced" into a sexual relationship with a convicted murderer, who was free on a technicality and frequented the home of Mattison's aunt, where Mattison's body was found, police said. Dante Parish, 35, confessed to killing Mattison last week, police say. Mattison had been stabbed repeatedly and gagged. Cops say a TV had been stolen from the house as a diversion to make it appear that thieves were responsible for Mattison's death.
The teenager was described as a popular student who got good grades and was appreciated for his fashion sense. He was mourned by teachers and classmates this week, as family members questioned the circumstances of his death: Why had Parish been allowed at the home of Mattison's aunt? How could an inappropriate relationship between Mattison and Parish have gone unnoticed by relatives?
Parish was arrested at a convenience store after police say he was identified by witness testimony as the suspect. He is being held without bail.
