In the same Washington county where four officers were killed in an ambush last month, two sheriff’s deputies were lured inside a home Monday and gunned down during a domestic violence call, CNN reports.
The two Pierce County sheriff’s deputies were in critical condition Tuesday morning following the incident at a home in Eatonville, which is just south of Seattle, according to authorities.
Det. Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, said that two brothers and a young woman were involved in a dispute. One of the men invited the officers inside, and the other went upstairs, where he returned with a gun, Troyer said. He then began firing on the deputies, hitting them repeatedly, he said.
The deputies returned fire and killed the man with the gun, Troyer said, noting that “there were a lot of rounds fired."
Late last month, four officers from Lakewood, Wash., were shot to death at an area coffee shop. Two days later, the suspect was shot and killed by Washington state troopers.
Troyer, whose department led the investigation into the Lakewood Police killings, described Monday’s incident as "surreal."
