KFC Ad Plays on Racial Stereotypes

Published January 7, 2010

Are you a lone White man, who’s sweating bullets because you’re surrounded by a horde of Black folks who are dancing and playing jungle rhythms?

Critics claim that the concept – which feeds the age-old stereotype about Blacks and chicken – suggests that the colonel’s golden-fried gospel-bird can even soothe the savage beast, which happens to be Black folks.

A KFC spokesman said that the ad was "misinterpreted by a segment of people in the U.S."

The management of the fast food chain has also apologized.
