TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Kendrick Meek will be the lead sponsor of Mike Wallace's car at the NASCAR Nationwide Series opener at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 13.
Rep. Meek, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, said he has been a longtime NASCAR supporter and he and his family plan to be on pit road during the race.
The campaign said Meek has sponsored legislation as a state senator and in Congress to benefit the racing industry.
He is seeking the seat Republican Mel Martinez left early. Republicans seeking the seat include Gov. Charlie Crist and former House Speaker Marco Rubio.
Crist appointed George LeMieux to fill the remainder of Martinez' term.
