Woodson wasn't an original member of The Temptations but helped keep them from becoming a nostalgia act.
Woodson joined the group after it produced classic hits in the 1960s and '70s that included "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," "My Girl" and "I Wish It Would Rain.
But his fiery voice helped the group notch "Treat Her Like a Lady" and other R&B hits from 1984 to 1986.
