FLINT, Mich. – Two additional murder charges were filed Thursday against a man suspected in stabbings across three states including Michigan, where five men were killed.
Elias Abuelazam was charged in the deaths of Darwin Marshall, 43, in Flint on July 26 and Frank Kellybrew, 60, in Flint Township on July 30, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced. Abuelazam faces life in prison with no parole if convicted.
Abuelazam previously was charged with one count of murder in the death of Arnold Minor, 49, who was stabbed in the chest and stomach Aug. 2, and five counts of attempted murder in the Flint area, 70 miles north of Detroit. He's pleaded not guilty. He also is charged with attempted murder in Toledo, Ohio, and is a suspect in similar crimes in Leesburg, Va.
Five men were killed and nine were injured this year in a string of knife attacks in and around Flint.
A common thread in some stabbings was that the victims were asked for help or directions before being attacked. Most victims were black, but authorities have said there's no evidence that race was the key motive.
Abuelazam was arrested in Atlanta in August while trying to fly to his native Israel.
