The Atlanta rapper is currently in federal prison and is expected to be released in March, according to statements made Wednesday by a U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesman. Johnson often traveled with his wife, who was White.  To escape prison, Johnson moved to Europe but later returned and served 10 years in federal custody.

Reggae Star Freed - Jamaican reggae singer Buju Banton was released from a Florida jail Wednesday to await a retrial on federal drug charges. Stephen Marley, son of Bob Marley, posted his home bond. Banton stands accused of trying to buy cocaine from an undercover officer and was held since last December. But after his trial in September, jurors couldn’t reach a verdict and the judge declared a mistrial.

DEA: We Have Buju Banton on Tape - Reggae music star Buju Banton is in federal custody for allegedly trafficking five kilos of cocaine to the U.S. According to law enforcement officials, Banton is on tape making a drug deal in Florida. If convicted, Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, may serve a life sentence.

NASA Gives HBCU $10 million - Hampton University has accepted a $10.2 million grant from NASA to study clouds formed by ice that shine brightly at night at the Earth's poles. The grant is an extension of the $140 million NASA gave the historically Black college in 2002.

Rapidly Spreading - On Monday, health officials added a student at historically Black Howard University in Washington, D.C., to the list of those stricken with the rapidly spreading swine flu. In the D.C. metro area – including the District and parts of Maryland and Virginia – there are 17 reported cases.

HBCUs Investigated For Discrimination - Howard University and the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore are among 19 Washington D.C area universities under investigation for discrimination against female applicants. The U.S Civil Rights Commission will determine whether these schools make it more difficult for women to gain acceptance into their program than their male counterparts.
