Hidden Beach Sues Jill Scott - When Jill Scott dropped her first Grammy-nominated album in 2001 she became the face of then little-known Hidden Beach Records. Now, the L.A.-based company is suing its once-upon-a-time signature artist. Label CEO Scott McKeever says he lost millions lavishing Scott with gifts and giving her time off to pursue her film career. But, mostly, he says, Scott breached a six-album contract when she walked away after releasing three.

American Muslims Celebrate<MbR> Art at Apollo - American Muslim artists and performers took over the stage at a sold-out show held at the Apollo Theater last Saturday to celebrate Islamic art and entertainment in America. The acts ranged from standup comedy and opera to hip-hop. Rapper Mos Def, who is also Muslim, headlined the show attended by about 1,400 people.

Judge Deals 2 Blows to Jackson’s Doc - After listening to testimony at a preliminary hearing, a Los Angeles judge decided Tuesday that there was enough evidence for Dr. Conrad Murray to go to trial for involuntary manslaughter in connection to the 2009 death of Michael Jackson. Then, not too long after that ruling, the same judge decided that suspend Murray’s license to practice medicine in California.

Conrad Murray Faces Charges - Prosecutors plan to charge Michael Jackson's doctor with manslaughter rather than take the case to a grand jury, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press Tuesday. Prosecutors will file a criminal complaint against Dr. Conrad Murray, who practices in Houston. Jackson died June 25 from an anesthetic overdose. Murray maintains nothing he gave Jackson should have killed him.

Tyler Perry Gives a Million to Haiti - Movie producer Tyler Perry donated $1 million to relief efforts in Haiti. “I have raised my personal donation from $250,000 to $1 million. I did this realizing that after the next big story comes along, the news media will pack up and leave the people of Haiti to fend for themselves. They always do,” he wrote on his Web site. Perry says he hopes to follow his donation with a trip to the island nation.

According to a doctor, she cannot sign her name and needs help with daily tasks. In 2008, James had giving power of attorney to her sons and a daughter-in-law, but her husband Artis Mills is challenging that.

Etta James in Hospital Recovering - Etta James's manager said the R&B singer remains hospitalized in Southern California as she recovers from sepsis, an infection. Lupe De Leon said Monday that James is stable and he doesn't know when the 72-year-old singer will be released from the Riverside Community Hospital. She had entered a treatment program to shake a dependency on painkillers and was transferred to the hospital when her condition worsened.

Case Against AKA President Dismissed - A judge this week threw out a lawsuit against the leadership of the nation's oldest Black Greek-letter sorority Barbara A. McKinzie. Eight members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. sued in June to remove McKinzie, claiming she misappropriated millions of dollars in AKA money, using some of it to pay for a wax statue of herself in a Baltimore museum.
