Concert Moved - In commemoration of Black History Month, the Obamas will host “Performance at the White House: A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement.” The concert, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was moved to Tuesday because a storm is expected to slam the D.C. region. The event will be streamed live on www.WhiteHouse.gov and will showcase songs and speeches from the Civil Rights era. Performers include Yolanda Adams, Natalie Cole, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend and more.

This Past Weekend - The president spoke in front of Democratic leaders during the DNC Winter Meeting last Saturday. During the gathering, which included Democratic lawmakers and cabinet members, Obama stressed his ongoing commitment to passing health care reform. “There are some…who say to walk away. Just in case there is any confusion out there, I am not going to walk away from health insurance reform,” he said.

Michelle Obama: Comic Book Hero? - Last year, when Bluewater Productions launched its first Michelle Obama comic book as part of its Female Force line, they sold out of copies before it even hit stores, they say. Now, the group is coming out with a sequel entitled, “Female Force: Michelle Obama: YEAR ONE,” which will be about Mrs. Obama’s travels and accomplishments as First Lady during her first year in the White House, reports CNBC. The “Female Force” line also has comics dedicated to Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice.

Before the White House Concert - Prior to Tuesday’s Civil Rights concert, the First Lady will host a workshop entitled “Music that Inspired the Movement” for 120 high schoolers from across the nation in the State Dining Room. The students will learn about the relevance of Civil Rights music to today’s youth. This event will also be streamed live on the White House Web site. In addition, students can submit questions prior to the workshop (at www.whitehouse.gov/civil-rights-music) that will be answered during the event.

Snowmageddon - Massive snowfall struck the D.C. region this past weekend in what President Obama jokingly labeled “Snowmageddon.” The snowfall didn’t stop the president, a Chicago native, and others from attending the Democratic National Committee’s winter meeting on Saturday.  The streets around the hotel where the meeting was held were blocked by snow before Obama’s arrival, and the president thanked those who were able to attend despite the blizzard, the Associated Press.
