Correspondents’ Dinner - After his speech in Michigan, the president returned to D.C. where he and First Lady Michelle Obama attended the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Per tradition, the president did a little comedy routine. “I saw Michael Steele backstage when we were taking pictures – AKA Notorious GOP,” Obama said as the crowd laughed. Former presidential candidate John McCain was also a joke target.

Deepwater Tragedy - The president has invited family members of the men who lost their lives in the BP Deepwater Horizon tragedy to the White House on Thursday. At that time he will offer his personal condolences. In total, 11 men died following the explosion of the oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in April and 17 were injured.

The HHS recently announced $493 million in grants for state initiatives that promote good health and prevent disease. On Thursday, Mrs. Obama will travel to Florida to attend the Florida Campus Compact annual Awards Gala and Luncheon.

In addition, spouses and mothers of troops and young women from Mrs. Obama’s mentoring program will attend with the notable women in their lives.

Upcoming Commencement Speeches - This upcoming Sunday, Mrs. Obama will give the commencement address at The George Washington University at their graduation ceremonies in D.C. Earlier this year, the First Lady said she would come and speak at the school provided the students and staff complete 100,000 hours of community service during the course of the school year. Mrs. Obama will also speak at the Anacostia Senior High School Commencement, a D.C. public school, on June 11.
