Lesnar Wins At UFC 116 - UFC heavyweight Brock Lesnar returned from a one-year layoff and survived a rough first round, defeating Shane Carwin by submission. Carwin had the advantage early against Lesnar but simply ran out of gas in the second round. It was Lesnar’s first fight since he battled diverticulitis, which nearly ended his career.

Evans Loses Job At Georgia - University of Georgia athletics director Damon Evans was relieved of his duties after he was charged with a DUI on Wednesday night in Atlanta, according to sources. Evans, 40, was the first African-American athletics director in the history of the Southeastern Conference.

Yanks, Sox Lead All-Star Selections - Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the 2010 All-Star Game in Anaheim on July 13. Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer was the leading vote getter and the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox led all teams with six All-Stars.

Dunga Fired As Brazil Coach - After a disappointing 2-1 loss to the Dutch in the World cup, the Brazilian Football Federation fired head coach Dunga and his staff. Brazil will host the World Cup in 2014 for the first time since 1950.

Ghana Knocked Out Of World Cup - Ghana failed to become the first African nation to reach the semifinals of the World Cup as the Black Stars lost in dramatic fashion to Uruguay 4-2 on spot-kicks after a 1-1 quarter-final draw. Ghana had opportunites in extra time to win but came up short.

Joe Johnson Staying Put - Free agent guard Joe Johnson is staying in Atlanta after the Hawks offered him a six-year, $119 million contract. The New York Knicks were interested in Johnson but Atlanta had the ability to offer him nearly $27 million more than any other team.

That’s the question on everyone’s mind as James visited with the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks (twice), Chicago Bulls (twice), Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and New Jersey Nets. Vick An Eagle For Now - The Philadelphia Eagles denied a report that they were going to release quarterback Michael Vick after his latest incident with the law. "Any report or speculation that suggests the Eagles are considering releasing Vick are not true,” the Eagles said in a statement. “We will continue to gather information and monitor the situation and we will not have any further comment until that process is complete."

Nadal Wins Wimbledon - Rafael Nadal defeated Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday for his second Wimbledon trophy and eighth Grand Slam title overall. With the victory, Nadal is now halfway to Roger Federer’s 16 Grand Slam titles.

Pierce Staying In Boston - Despite opting out of his contract, Paul Pierce will remain with the Boston Celtics after agreeing to a four-year, $61 million contract. Pierce took less money to return to Boston and gave the Celtics more cap room in order to re-sign Ray Allen.
