The Newark mayor files paperwork for possible U.S. Senate bid, but hedges on saying that he will definitely run.
The rumors that Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Cory Booker will run for a U.S. Senate seat in the Garden State are still rumors, but Booker's recent formal filing of papers to create a campaign political action committee brings those notions closer to reality.
An anonymous source spoke to NJ.Com and said that the mayor may run, but that talking about a potential race helps to raise money that Booker can use in helping President Barack Obama get reelected.
Deep-pocketed supporters of the Democratic Party have been urging Booker to consider a Senate race. The mayor does have a political action committee, chaired by Bari Mattes, Booker's longtime fundraising adviser and former City Hall employee, that is looking into the possibility.
