\r Over 4,000 Pastors Call on the Government to Not Cut Benefits Programs \r \r \r \r

A coalition of clergy members is asking Congress and the president to not cut programs that will hurt the most vulnerable in their congregations and community.

If they say “a little prayer will do it,” try a lot a prayer.

On Wednesday, a coalition of over 4,000 pastors released an open letter to Congress saying that they’d like to form a “Circle of Protection" around "programs that meet the essential needs of hungry and poor people at home and abroad.”

The coalition was organized by Sojourners, a Washington D.C.-based group of Christians that focuses on social justice issues. They state that as Christians, in the budget debate, they are most concerned about the moral measure of how the most poor and vulnerable people will fare.

The pastors state that they want to help in reducing the national debt, but are in opposition of immoral budget cuts that will harm the most vulnerable people in their congregations and communities.

The letter to Congress and the president ran as a full page ad in the Politico and can be found here.
