Rep. Allen West (R-Florida) declared his state a battleground and sent a tough message to President Obama and Democratic leaders when he spoke at the Palm Beach County GOP’s Lincoln Dinner: Get the hell out of the United States.
"We need to let President Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and my dear friend the chairman of the Democrat National Committee [Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz], we need to let them know that Florida ain't on the table," West said. "Take your message of equality of achievement, take your message of economic dependency, take your message of enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people somewhere else. You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America."
He has attracted the attention of birther queen Orly Taitz, who has unsuccessfully been trying to get states to not allow Obama to appear on their ballots this fall, most recently in Georgia. Taitz is calling on West to join her cause and bring Obama’s eligibility for office before Congress.
“Talk is cheap, actions matter,” she wrote on her blog.
West has many opinions about Obama, but he is not interested in birtherism.
“I will tell you this: That is the dog chasing its tail,” he said at a town hall meeting in his district last year when asked if Obama is in the United States legally. “The most important thing is, it’s the policies. That’s what we have to be standing on.”
