Claim: “As I have said many times before, the president did not cause the economic crisis, but he made it worse,” he told ASNE executives. He also has claimed that under Obama unemployment “is the worst it’s been in American history.”

Fact-check: Romney has previously acknowledged that the economy is improving, but he does not want to give Obama’s policies any credit for the recovery or the millions of jobs added. PolitiFact has ruled “false” the claim also made by Romney and other Republicans that the current employment rate is worse than it was during the Great Depression.
